As one of the early pioneers in Los Angeles Graffiti, Slick ran with the K2S crew throughout the 80’s becoming one of the most recognizable artists behind a spray can on the streets of Southern California. Like most of the early graffiti legends, his career path led him astray of spraying in the streets, to what has become a successful career in other more law-friendly creative outlets. In the early 90’s he worked with legendary Los Angeles hip-hop artists like Ice Cube and The Pharcyde. The streetwear industry has always gone hand-in-hand with hip-hop and Slick’s career also took that same path and just as he’s worked with legendary artist, he’s also worked with the best streetwear companies as well.

His portfolio is like a black book of A-list collaborators including the likes of Stussy, XLarge and FUCT to name a few. Nowadays his passion for creativity keeps him busy with another streetwear brand, his own Dissizit. With Dissizit, Slick has worked with some other famous sneaker aficionados, including hip-hop group La Coka Nostra, but it has also opened up other new opportunities. The Dissizit brand has been a creative platform that has unveiled to the world one of his other passions that is so often synonymous with streetwear, sneakers.

Slick’s latest work has teamed him up with adidas as part of their artist series. As part of the pairings Spring 2010 Collection, Slick has reworked a number of adidas Originals pieces. Part of the collection will include two fresh colorways of the Artillery Mid. The first is a classic combination of black, white and red and featuring Slick’s famous “nametag.” Another version of the Artillery Mid was done up in a combination of blue and yellow. Matching gear in the form of hoodies, windbreakers, and adidas t-shirts will also feature design work from Slick. The Slick x adidas Originals Collection is available at select retailers now.

TANTALIZING THAI 01. 17. 10

Some friends of mine came to town for the NAAM show. We went to my favorite Thai spot in all LA, Tantaling Thai. Frank, Crook and I go way back. Abe I only met a few times but seems like a pretty cool cat (I believe he’s the drummer for Deftones) The Siam Triangles were off the chain.  We caught up over some Halibut Panang cuury! Between dishes, we all got our doodle on. You didn’t know the Decibel Devils had graff skills? We brainstormed a bit for DISSIZIT mixtape volume 666 dropping later on this year. Then we polished off the garlic Salmon…

MARE @ THE CITY OF GOD 01. 16. 10

MARE 139 visited Cidade de Deus which is famous from the movie City of God, he was there with Project 2050 to visit the basketball court restoration by NIKE and to meet representatives of CUFA. Despite the hardships he saw hope in these young kids and opportunity for us to help. There are talented kids in the rough running around.
